After the loss in Lok Sabha election 2019, Congress President, Rahul Gandhi, said that he would like to step down from the party’s top most position. On 25th may 2019, congress leaders held a cabinet meeting (comprising 52 Congress leaders, including former PM Shri Manmohan Singh) to discuss the factors for their dramatic loss in the elections and what congress should do to bounce back and win a majority in the next election which is going to be held in 2024, the question arises, if Rahul Gandhi should step down as president of the INC, in response to this, most of the senior congress leaders disagreed and said that the move would show his weakness and would do them no good.

He has reportedly said that he has taken full responsibility for their loss. Rahul Gandhi has not yet decided if he is going to continue or not . Sonia Gandhi( former congress president) and Priyanka Gandhi has said that the decision is not in their hands but it lies in the hands of the Congress President. Rahul Gandhi’s fall from political grace was exemplified by his defeat in Amethi, a constituency held by his family for the better last four decades but now lies in the hands of BJP candidate Smriti Irani, Rahul lost this constituency by a margin of 52,000 votes, this shows that people have lost their faith in the leadership of the congress party. Congress have shrunk after their loss in the 2014 lok sabha election, BJP has won most of the state elections too, people have decided to lay their trust on BJP leaders. Congress in this election did have some hope of winning as they found out many flaws in the ruling of the BJP such as Demonetization, GST and the Rafale jet scam in which BJP was hugely involved. Some congress leaders said that the reason for BJP’s win in this election was due to the Balakot Air strikes which took place in february this year. The congress leaders have resorted to bring in many changes in the party after this dramatic loss. BJP however have not given any response to this matter what so ever but have enjoyed their win and are working on keeping peoples trust on their shoulders for the next five years and so on. What do you think? Should Rahul Gandhi resign as the president? What steps do congress have to take to bounce back in the next elections? What do you think BJP’s response to this will be ? If not Rahul Gandhi who is strong enough to carry INC on his/her shoulders. So many unanswered questions, lets hope they are answered in the next few weeks.
